this is a really weird question, but I have just discovered that my neighbour is emptying his swimming pool, and the water has come through into our kitchen garden. I THINK it is just because there is so much water, but my newly made raised bed is practically swimming - but I am now worried about the drainage and also whether the chemicals will be a problem. He says there is hardly any chemical in it, and has turned it off now.

Swimming Pool water
Hi
What type of soil was in your raised bed, and what sort of soil is below it ?Has the water drained away yet, or has it left your bed like porridge ?
I'm not sure about the chemicals and any effect they may have on the soil, but a good way to check if your soil is fairly healthy is to check the worm population.
Hope things aren't as dire as they sounded at the time.

hi Rat. I think its ok, it all drained away pretty quickly... and I should think the chemical content was pretty low at this time of year anyway. the only bed that was affected is one that I still have to fill up with more compost, and then I'm going to put a black plastic sheet over it til the spring/time to plant spuds anyway.
