    good morning , i dug a trench on friday and put lots of nice home made compost in it ,could you let me know if i should fill it in straight away or leave it for a while to let the air in , i am putting french and dwarf beans in . thank you ,bill.

    I usually fill mine in straight away - the only reson I can think of not to is if you will continue to add stuff. You end up with a mound like a grave - got accused of doing away with the husband one year when neighbour peeped over the fence! However, between now and sowing/planting your beans (April/May) the mound will have settled.

    That's what I do. There may be more than one way of skinning this particular cat though!

      I dug my bean trench a couple weeks back, prior to the frosts and left it exposed, I have now added to home compost and covered over straight away
