They taste like carrots to me
Carrots are not my favourite vegetable - I chew them, eat them and they go down. I try not to think about the flavour.
Seriously, though, Chantenay types have long been renowned for flavour. My understanding is that they are not widely used in catering etc because their cone-shape make them trickier to prepare than the uniform types. These days they appear to be seen more as a "gourmet" carrot, really - hence the hyped price in the supermarkets.
I have only grown them to harvest young, so I can't comment on their flavour at maturity.

Not sure if there are different types with a similar name but I tried the baby sized carrots called Chantenay when they were half price in Tescos a while ago and they were very nice. I did not peel them just trimmed tops and then roasted them with other veg. in a tray in the oven, the ones I boiled had more taste/ were sweeter than most supermarket carrots.

We pull them young (2 - 3cm) top and tail them and steam them, they're very sweet and are my favourite carrot. We have clay soil, so I struggle with normal carrots, but these are lovely and grow well in a small raised bed. I've tried the round varieties, Paris Market and the like, but the flavour has never been up to much.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
