  • Potting on

I have some flower plants growing in multi-cells at the moment, but they will shortly have to be potted on. What type of potting mediums does everyone out there use for this task?

Multi-purpose. I use it for sowing, and for potting on. It works just fine.

Yes, multi-purpose for me too. The only thing to watch out for (particularly if you buy organic or peat free) is that it can have big lumps in. A soil sieve will sort this out, or just go through it roughly by hand.

I use multipurpose too. The main reason is that I don't have storage room for a variety of composts or for the ingredients to make my own mixes.

Thank you so much for the info. I was looking at JH No.1 compost, but looks like this can be avoided.

At the mo you can buy square fibre (ie not peat) pots at Wilkinsons for £1.99. As they are square you can fit a lot of them onto one tray and they might be ideal for you to pot your seedlings on to as you can plant them straight into your garden with no root disturbance. We've got through four packets already!

If you haven't got a sieve, nip to either your local greengrocer or the local market and scrounge some of the blue mushroom trays off them, they make a really good sieve and if you line them with landscape fabric are ideal for overwintering your dahlia tubers in
