  • Sowing in the rain?

Hi all - silly question of the week coming up (you can rely on me!). I've been putting off sowing my parsnips, caulis and the like because of all this wet weather. If I sow in a gap between the rain showers at the weekend do you think the cold wet weather will do more damage than if I wait another couple of weeks?

    Sorry, I'm getting impatient ...

I know the feeling of feeling impatient lol.........i just go to the plot just to be there, dreaming over a brew what I 'could' be doing. I would just leave it for a couple of weeks.
Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

You could chit the seed indoors and by the time it's chitted it may have stopped raining!

You really should wait until the soil is workable (dryish on top) and at least 5 degrees otherwise your seed will just rot. You'll be better being patient than wasting a lot of seed and a lot of work.

Thanks folks!! Think I'll get OH to put my seed box up on top of the wardrobe where I can't reach it out of temptations way!!!

I have a few leeks and chillis and broadies waiting to be planted out, not sure I want to risk germinating too much more in case the rain doesnt stop soon

Does this advice apply to potatoes? I wanted to plant mine tomorrow, but there has been relatively heavy rain today.

I didn't plant anything until mid April last year and the crops were as good as could be expected in the lack of summer.

My potatoes are not in yet. Another week at least, I think, depending on the weather. The soil is too cold and wet.
