i have seedlings!!!

i only planted them friday, but by yesterday morning they'd come up...surely that's too quick?...what am i doing wrong???

it's pretty warm and the soil is nice and moist, but i don't have a lot of light in my house - so i fear my plants won't do so well

i don't know what a "leggy" onion seedling looks like, so i have no idea

it's hard to get a decent photo. but i took some anyway, is this a "leggy" seedling???

they all seem to be leaning, so they're obviously not getting much, if any light....

this is very scary...MUCH worse than having babies!

Most indoor sown seedlings will be like that, even worse in heated propagator (they grow superfast from my experience). Are they not placed near to a window or even on the window sill for source of light? If you do, face the seedlings away from the window where they're bending forward, might straighten them up a bit. Also don't worry too much, you can bury most seedlings deeper up to their first leaves etc later or as you see fit. Be gentle when you repot deeper, I used pointy chopstick or teaspoon handle to pull out the seedlings out.

That's not the quickest, you'd be surprised, and the answer is yes, they are a bit leggy I'm afraid.

You need to get the temperature down and the light up. Warmth is no good without light.

The cabbage in particular needs much lighter, cooler conditions.

If I were you, I would re-sow today if you can find a cooler light place. If you can't I'm not sure what to suggest but these seedlings are going to struggle to stay vertical if they continue growing in this way.

have never seen onions come up looking like those,onions come up doubled over,and staighten up to look more like a thin blade of grass,as do any of the onion family,at least the ones i have ever grown,what type and name are you growing,could be i'm about to learn something new.
is it possible you have some strays from previous sowings

That does look like a cabbage though in the bottom pic.

i too had this problem when sowing seeds indoors, i ended up giving up!. i now germinate them on the windowsill and then take them up to my greenhouse on the allotment - i just have to try and get there everyday to water the pesky things, its alot easier to buy seedlings but i dont want to give up just yet!

They are not onions. Onions look like a very very thin blade of grass, with a black spot at the top (which is the remains of the seed).

Your cabbages will be fine if you plant them out quite deep so that just the top leaves are sowing. What type of onions are they? With spring onions you can just sow them straight in their growing position - they are wonderfully un-fussy!

The joy of those first few seedlings is great isn't it, I'm always thrilled when something comes up and still get excited about it, even if it's a pesky old weed. I find that compost sometimes has seeds in it like chick weed and I feel a bit mean putting them on the compost heap!

they looks more like my petunia seedlings,from looking at the leave arrangement on them i would hazard a guess at a flower of some kind

errm...rijnsbuger. well, i was very careful to label as i sowed a row. and they were definitely in the packet.

and it's fresh compost straight from the bag...unless there was something in there then i have no idea...i was sure i'd only put 2 in that one, but there are definitely 3 of them...i'd not realised.. but now you've described them, it makes perfect sense, i've seen onions LOADS of times, i have no idea why i never clicked!!!...derrrr

hmm...might keep 'em going then...just to see what comes out of 'em.

i have some spring onions to sow, and lettuces aswell though, so should i just go for stuff that can be sown outside when it's time, rather than started off as seedlings inside then? i can see this light problem being a BIG problem...least till i get them outside

look after your supermodels and please post a picture of them when they have reached the height of their careers,
i found 2 different seeds in the compost from b&q,1 looks to be a been seed just sprouting,2 anybodys guess,have potted them up as yet nothing,time will tell,i wonder if the compost companies are sending it to the outlets to soon,as mine also has white powdery stuff on the woody bits,gives the impression of not quite rotted,so could that be the answer why we got these stray plants
