    cukes hate having any kind of dampness around their stems. best thing to do is to either water from the bottom, or/and build up the soil around the stems so that any water that does fall on the soil drains away from the stem. when you plant out in final position, make a lil hollow (or put a pot in the ground/growbag with holes in the bottom so you can fill that with water) away from the stem so you can put water in there rather than puddling around the stem.

    the other thing of course is that cukes need support long term.
