I'm growing cucumbers for the first time this year and have been trying to absorb the advice about male/female flowers and whether or not flowers need to be pinched off. The two varieties I have are Straight 8 and Burpless Tasty Green. As far as I can make out Straight 8 has all female flowers (so no flowers to remove) but will require a pollinator. BTG has male and female flowers and (according to Fothergills) needs to have both flowers left on.
This is where I am getting lost - will BTG be an effective pollinator for Straight 8 and how close does it need to be planted? Any help would be appreciated.
