Hi. In my opinion not too early - ive been growing radish, lettuce and rocket in an unheated greenhouse since Feb (without the aid of a hot water bottle for them at night). All depends on the lettuce variety - which ones?

I sowed my spring onions outside about 4 weeks ago and they're going great guns now

If you have sown too many, so that the plants are too close together (and lettuces need about 4"-8" each) you will need to 'thin out' by removing the extras.
Personally, I hate thinning out, so I don't sow so many in the first place.
