  • We're going all out to attack the slugs this year

We're getting nematodes, reusing the slug traps and putting in a pond for frogs.

It's the pond we've got queries about. What's the best way to go about creating one? Any tips?

start with an 'ole in the ground.
Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

IN all seriousness it depends what you want.

We did a raised one for me old dear that is a plastic shell and that was relatively inexpensive. The other alternative is getting a liner - benefit being is that you can get it the size and shape you want.

You may find this link useful BBC how to make you a pond in your garden page

Obviously there are other ways to go.

If you want to encourage wildlife into the garden, then you should ensure that the pond has different levels. We had a pond up until last year, we filled ours in to make more room as it was quite large.

If you want to encourage frogs and toads ensure that the top level of the pond allows for easy access in and out of the water.
We did a pond for my Dad a few years ago, its got quite well established now, he literally had thousands of baby frogs and toads

On the safety aspect, you can get some good barriers that sit on top of ponds, they are very strong, you can walk on them and they dont move but it depends what you want.
I agree with Jacob, safety has to be a top priority.

              Thanks very much for that.
Yes we do have little ones and are planning to put a fence up, with big enough gaps for the wildlife to get through.
Thanks for the link, that looks really good and for the tip about different levels.
How long do they take to get established, roughly?
