  • Feeding Cucumbers

I know that cucumbers need feeding, but I am receiving conflicting advice. so I thought I would come to the experts who grow them all the time.

One is saying do not use Tomato feed which is high in Potash because it will give the fruit a bitter taste and slow growth, but use a feed with a high Nitrogen content, whilst others are telling me to use a Tomato feed.

    What does everyone else use.

    Hi Workhouse,

I read the same, cuke do need high nitrogen feed and low potash. As this year is my 2nd year of cuke growing, I am still experimenting with mixing their feed. I will be monitoring this thread with great interest.

If you know any farmers, ask them for a carrier bag full of nitrogen fertiliser (probably cost you a pint). That should last a couple of years. If not, there's a stuff sold in garden centres called Vitax which is high nitrogen.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it and if you ain't going to eat it, don't kill it

I feed mine on a variety of tomato feed and seedweed and they seem to be fine.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
