Well, having finally taken the plunge and sown loads of seeds (with lots of advice from you lot!), I have to report that things are fantastic!

So far everything i've seeded has grown, that's not to say I have fruits from everything yet, but it's looking hopefull!

The lettuces have gone mad and we're managing to eat from them every day!

The raddishes are huge and fantastic and i'm re-seeding from each one I pick.

The toms are yet to turn to fruits, although have flowers, so i'm hopeful all will be ok!

The runner beans also have flowers and are about 5ft tall, so again, hopeful they will bear fruit.

The sweetcorn is looking healthy and is about 2ft tall and the leeks and spring onions are getting bigger each day!

The carrots are looking good, well, at least the tops are and the beetroot and spinach also looks good from top!

The only thing that hasn't done much, although hasn't died, is the peppers! They're not much bigger than when I put them in the ground! Maybe they're slow?

I have to say, touching wood, that i've had absolutely no problem with pests! We decided to build a net cover for the whole plot to keep the birds off. But with regards to other pests, nothing!

Anyway, i'm going to continue and maybe put some stuff in the ground for winter, although that will require some reading!

That's great Suspect Sprout - I am really pleased that you are having a good harvest and enjoying it! I tried to grow peppers outdoors for a few years but the plants never grew very big and neither did the peppers. Now I grow them in the greenhouse which is much better.

Maybe I should have kept the peppers on the window sill, if I potted them now would it be too late? The plants from the bed, not seeds.

I can take a couple of pics yes, how do I post them? I can upload to photobucket etc no prob but what button do I need on here to display?

There is nothing lost in trying them on the window sill. I am pretty certain that you can keep the plants over winter so that you get a good start next year. As for posting photo's I still have to learn that bit myself but there are instructions to help you in the Fruit And Vegetable Showcase. The first posting - read before you post.

cor, I have not idea what's happened to the raddishes whilst they've been in the ground, but they are seriously HOT!!! And I don't mind hot either!!

Hi Suspect Sprout, at the end of May when i was going on holidays i planted all my veg. including my peppers out in the open ground. When i got back nearly four weeks later they looked cold and miserable. I dug them all up, repotted them and they are doing just fine in the greenhouse. Also did the same with half my cucumbers.
                Good Luck.

I like the netting support SS, if you were to put some UV treted plastic over it, you could use it as a mine tunnel/super cloche!!

actually that's a really good idea nick! Having had some success this year I want to do much more in the seed growing department.

We thought about one of these plastic greenhouses, we could erect it on the vedge plot and then take it down when we put everything in the ground.

But what you've suggested is a much better and easier idea! Not sure why I didn't think of that!!

Would I need to put anything on the ground to protect from cold coming up?
