With all the discussion about tomatoes i thought i would tell you what i do with mine. I allow two leader shoots to grow on instead of the usual one. I stake both of these and allow them to grow until they have formed 5 trusses of fruit and then i stop them. I find that this method gives me ten trusses of fruit per plant when the days are long and sunny and gives the fruits every chance to ripen rather than allowing the plant to grow on with seven or eight trusses on the one stem at which time it will be into the autumn with less chance of them ripening.
I'm sure there will be those who disagree with me for various reasons but it certainly works for me.
