  • Nettles as mulch

I read somewhere (I think it may have been GYO mag) that nettles can be used as a mulch. If this is correct do I have to do anything to them first i.e chop them up or soak them etc? Also are there any plants that I should not put them round?

Any advice or tips gratefully recieved!

Any soft green material can be used as mulch, also straw, grass clippings, compost etc. If you're using nettles make sure you only use the soft green tops - chop them or not, it's up to you. If you use any portion of the root it may well create a new nettle plant just where you don't want it.
