Hi Dinky Doo, glad the package arrived safe and sound. Unfortunately, I rarely get into the town centre, but Woolies sale is a good recommendation for everyone who can get down there. dexterdog

Nice pics and well done for all the work you have done!

Carrots - Sort of but soon get a feathery look to them! Could be grass are the blades in a stright line?

Hi Dinky Doo - the photos are FAB! Wish I'd done the same before I dug over the back garden! Ah well! The plot next to yours - was yours in the same state when you started? You certainly have been working hard - well done!
Thanks to your influence, Im even asking around about plots in south ribble - still at an early stage tho! gotta figure out when Im going to have the time to fit it in!
As for carrots - they look a little like feathers when they start to grow. One idea I used was to plant the seeds in a straight row and put a label at either end then I knew where they were! You could also get a couple of sticks, tie a long piece of string to each and put one stick in each end of the row, then as they grow you can tell where they are.
Watch out for something called carrot fly - its a pest that rears its ugly head sometime in August - but no doubt everyone else will be able to furnish us both with more details.
Keep up the hard work mate, it's lookin good!
              Best wishes

                        Ground cover

If it's the Black woven stuff - Yes.

We use a product called Teram on our contruction projects & I keep dropping hints like

"Can I have a couple of rolls of that"

But they keep ignoring me I must ask the guys what they do wuith it when they are finished as it would be useful on our lottie site so cover the spare plots we've got.

I am i would say mildly experianced so i will beg of you to not grow mint openly within 2 weeks to is likley to spead and smother the existing plants so grow it in a container. and don't chop up perenual weeds they are likley to grow from the exsiting roots left.

                              Hi Dinky
Another newbie here. As far as I know visqueen is clear which will be like putting the weeds in a greenhouse! Could be wrong though!

                                Hey Nick,
I'm not surprised they haven't been handing out Terram to you on the sites. It is a LOT more expensive than normal mulch matting, it is supposed to last twenty five years...I use it in conservation work and so far all they will give me is little scraps about 40cm wide !
I think you will find they bury it under pathways and landscaped areas, so of course if you happen to have a JCB spare some evening...
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
