  • Unstable tomato plants

I HAVE 2 PLANTS THAT SEEM TO BE A LITTLE ......TOP HEAVY!!!

One of them is a tumbler and is splitting due to the weight of the fruit !! Should I tape or wire it together ?? Or sacrifice the smaller truss??

Pretty much the same with the regular tomato plant!!

Any one can help me ?>>

Have you tied your regular tomato plant to a cane? Is the weight of the fruit splitting the truss or the actual stem of the tomato plant?

I've never had a problem with the tumblers splitting before, but I usually plant them very close to the edge of a pot so that they always dangle over the edge and they're not really very upright. Are your tumbling toms quite upright or trailing?

The tumber just seems to be under the wight of the fruit as it was planted in the middle of the pot andhad two slightly smaller sub stems ... The secopnd is a tall 512 ft which is a little rocky in the wind .... i have heavily trimmed both plants and seem to be making a difference as ripenning has begun !!

Great to hear your toms are ripening and the plants are a bit more stable! I often remove some of the lower leaves with my upright tomatoes to get the light to the tomatoes for ripening - although I've heard this isn't totally necessary.

512 ft! That's one hell of a plant. How do you manage to pick them?

I figured that you couldn't have meant 512ft really.... if so, you should be in the Guinness book of records!!
