I have never grown squash before and have one 'sweet dumpling' plant in a large growbag. It has grown very impressively with lots of flowers, 'buds' and leaves but nothing that looks like it could turn into a squash...the plant is outside in a sheltered, sunny corner. Any advice?

Our squashes were exactly the same - all mouth and no trousers - until about a week ago. Since then, the little baby squashes started to form. None are any bigger than a golf ball at the moment (unlike the pumpkins which are already football sized).
Make sure that they get plenty of water - ours responded when i started going up to the lottie and "bucket watering" every (dry) evening.
don't abandon hope yet! the plants sound healthy enough but chrismarks is right - the squashes may start to form now but will probably not be ready to eat until Autumn.
good luck!!Last edited by Storm; 05-08-2008, 02:00 PM.Vegetable Rights And Peace!

you're welcome! though after all my optimism yesterday, i went to the lottie last night to find that most of the small squashes were starting to turn an unsavoury rotten brown and were disconnecting from the plant
no excessive squash harvest for us this year i fear...Last edited by Storm; 07-08-2008, 08:15 AM.Vegetable Rights And Peace!

No need to go to Sainsburys this Hallow'en - i suspect we'll be giving them away!
Make sure your pumpkin is well watered!Last edited by Storm; 07-08-2008, 02:15 PM.Vegetable Rights And Peace!
