The big ones that run on Parafin are DD. You can also use them to steralise soil to make your own Compost. The little Gas ones aren't really big enough (fuel tank wise) according to one of the folks on our plot.
You don't haave to "set fire" to the weeds, you just pass over them & reupture the cell structure & so stop them working. It usually requires a couple of attemps.
One draw back is the weather we're having at the moment, everywhere is so dry you could have a forest fire on your hands

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.

Not used one for years, but they are very good.
You kill bugs, their eggs. Weed seeds and so on. I can remember my father dealing with a wasps nest once.
As a footnote. Many arable farmers complained that disease in corn crops increased after "field" burning of straw was banned. As with the ploughing-in of straw.
As with straw burning, its fun to do.

My hubby bought me one for birthday and xmas I got a sheen X500 which includes trolley and sheild which cost me about £190 including p+p (cheaper to buy as one ) the only UK supplier is clear it garden services (www.clearitgs.co.uk) its handy to have the trolley I normally drag it behind me as I go then put the flame gun on it to top up the pressure the shield is handy to use when weeding between rows of seedlings my allotment looks the best its looked for 7 years you get a few funny looks and coments but the best investment Ive made and its true you just wave it over the weeds and they shrivel before your eyes its best to catch them no bigger than 2 inches bigger is still dietroyable but takes a few times but be ready for a few war wounds on the leaves of your veg whilst you get used to using it so I say go for it!!
