Hi all. Happy Bank Holiday!! Just realised it's been about a year since I last visited / posted - oopsie!! Any hints or tips on what I could start to sow now for harvesting through the winter months. My plot is very small as I split my existing space so that someone could get off the waiting list. All suggestions helpful although I hate cabbage!!!!! Ick ick ick Thank you

You've left it a bit late really.
Winter crops are usually sown by July. They need to get a good headstart before the days start shortening & cooling too much.

I'm sowing Spring Cabbage today... for cropping in April

Rocket will last under a cloche (mine lasted all winter last year!)
You can still plant radishes and some spinach things

There's all the overwintering stuff like Kale (which you could put in and use as salad, though it might not last the winter as it will be a bit small, but cloche or fleece it and see!). Though if you don't like cabbage this may not be for you ...

As you've left it a bit late, you may want to go to the garden centre and see what they have in the way of seedlings to give you a head start (normally wouldn't recommend this but it may get you out of a spot!)

You could plant some spring onions, but they may not be ready in time to eat before they shut down for the winter.

You can still just about do the ends of lettuce / salady stuff / I think Pak Choi still plants in august (Some varieties anyway).

Obviously the overwintering "proper" stuff will be going in soon (purple sprouting / garlic / onions / shallots) so make sure you have some room available for those.

Thanks for the replies I have definitely left it a bit too late so I'd better concentrate on sorting out my purple sprouting broccoli and onions (thanks fwuffy dragon). I have got some heavy duty plastic cloches so I'll carry on sowing my salad leaves under those for a while.
