tomatoes & potatoes are related and if u put infected compost where your taties are going then your taties have a good chance of being infected too...

It's up to yourself Gary but the compost heap can be a good option.
The compost heap needs a quantity of "brown" additive to help the green stuff to break down. So if you have a lot of grass cuttings, green veggie waste etc on there, then the brown compost will help it along and give you a good quantity of compost.
But if you just want to work it in somewhere because you need immediate soil improvement then you can. But don't spread it thin. If you put it straight in the ground then dump it and just let it improve the area it covers to get good results.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Usually onto the compost heap but also onto the flower beds if they need topping up.
