  • Cauliflower--Help!

I believe I planted that all year round cauliflower in the Spring. Anyway, I went looking for caterpillars this afternoon and searched around in the little leaves that usually surround the caulis and there is a little sprout of cauliflower! I pulled up some of the middle leaves and tied them so I'll get white veg. Does anyone know how long I have to wait to get a full sized head??

    Thanks.

It should come good in the next few weeks, in theory. Usually, they would be ready by October.

For future reference, you only need to bend one of the outer ones over the head when it's bigger. You are not blanching the head, like you do with celery to soften it, but just giving it a little protection from the elements.

Thank you - you've been very helpful. I'll fix those leaves pronto.

Already dreaming of fresh cauliflower in salad, cauliflower cheese, cauliflower and shrimp curry.................
