  • Hops and chickens

Not sure if this post should go here or in the chicken section . Anyway ........................... I'm thinking of growing some hops next year, something different that I haven't tried before, also to cover up part of a chicken-wire fence, and also perhaps have a go at making some beer The thing is, I don't know if any part of the plant is poisonous especially for chickens, 'cos that's where I'm thinking of putting it - my side of their fence but they can get their heads through the wire if there's anything worth having at my side. Any helpful (or otherwise) advice gratefully received

I've never thought of hops but I do grow ornamental gourds over the chicken wire and the chickens don't touch them, they're not toxic just very bitter and the vines are prickly too, they look quite freaky too which I like!

Not sure about hops, but the majority of stuff that is harmful to chooks they leave alone anyway!

      Not much help I know!

I've got a hop plant growing alongside my allotment. Assuming the seeds are not yet scattered I'll see what I can do!

Just been to look. You can see the seeds inside the flower but I don't think they are ripe yet. Will keep trying! After all, I'm there most days.
