  • constructing a Comost

    Hi every one.
I am going to build a compost bin out of pallets.
Is it a good idea to put it on a pallet on the ground to allow the air flow to go under the pallet or should it be direct on the floor.
    Advice please Bobby

Hi Bobby. Ususlly, bins are sited straight onto soil so that the worms and insects, etc, can get in. You want the heap to get as hot as possible and having a gap underneath might cause too much airflow to cool it down. Use your spare pallette as a cover to keep the heat in and the rain out.
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

also, rats & meeces like gaps, to nest in.
Gaps under sheds, gaps under compost bins... it's all the same to Ratty

It's mice in my bins - makes me laugh that they don't like the tea bags - they pile them all up in the corners, or perhaps they're just using them as draught proofing! At least they're turning my compost!

But definitely heap directly on the ground Bobby.
