Moving onions

Due to a number of factors - me ordering late for one, I have still yet to plant my onion sets.

The ground is sticky as hell at the moment, but I'm hopefull of a little dry spell to allow me to dig over and get the sets in the ground.

I thought it might be an idea to get them started in pots/vending cups first, but have a niggling notion that onions don't move well - am I going mad?

Yes. Onions move fine.

If you have any modules, pop them in there to start them off and transfer when you have better conditions.

Or put them in pots, they can go quite close together as you are really just getting the roots and tops growing, and you can separate later.

Or, if you have the vending cups, one or 3 in each would be fine.

Just get them in some soil!!!

I haven't planted mine yet HW for a number of reasons - moved plots, hurt my back doing so, last weekend it just rained and rained, clocks changed so dark when I get home from work, only have Sunday this weekend to get to plot!! It had better be dry enough!! I don't have enough space at home to put them into pots

Oh no! I'm done with having to prepare for babies, except for the grandchildren I'm sure we'll get there in the end. Have just made a list of all I want to do on Sunday (Don't tell the boss)

I am yet to get mine in either due to a combination of being really busy and the bad weather. I'm hoping to plant mine out next weekend but they may have to start- off in modules if the weather is against me!

under instruction from those that know on here, my spares all went into modules a couple of weeks back, they are doing brilliantly, although i was worried that they wont have enough room, however i shall rest easy now, and get them out in the spring in the hope they don't grow too much over winter anyway.

i started all mine in 2" pots in spring and autumn - transplanted 140 from the 2" pots into the allotment last week

Really hoping the weather will be ok this weekend for planting mine. If not, think I will have to start them in modules too- fingers crossed that it will be dry!!
