  • Seed fetish?!

I seem to have become an avid collector of seeds! I know that from the huge box I have which wont fit in anymore and yet a bundle has mysteriously arrived in the post today (whoop, whoop!!)

Now I KNOW I am not the only one on here....!!! LOL! I dont want to know what can be done about this obsession - I quite enjoy being a hoarder of seeds! Here is what I have done however to try to keep it under control (if thats at all possible!)

    1. Sorted out a load for the Pass the Parcel Seed Swap!

    2. Made up a spreadsheet (OK I havent done this yet - gonna start as soon as I submit this) with a list of all the seeds I own with; variety, where they came from (in case I want to order again) sow by date, opened or un-opened, where to sow (greenhouse or not), sow time, transplant time, crop time and notes - i.e. firm in well for brassicas etc.

    3. Dont buy any more until January and then only if I have actualy run out of something!

I am hoping that this will help me to forget anything that needs to be sown (especialy as I had stick for sowing beetroot so late!) and will show me what I have too much of etc.

    Comments?

Can't help you, FD. I'm a complete seed-a-holic and just can't break the addiction.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I am completly addicted too. I love looking at seed supplier websites and I can always be found browsing the seed stand in the garden centre or supermarket. Off to a seed swap soon, so hopefully get some more. Yippee.

Don't fight it, embrace it! Feels so much better
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

My ultimate aim is to save my own seeds and NEVER have to buy any!

The problem is.................I like buying seeds!

Y'know the saying " eyes bigger than your belly" bigger than my plot in my case.

I think it's cos they're dreams are'nt they........of hot summers and bountiful crops and beautiful flowers that smell amazing.
                  Irresistable !!! Lol.

I am a seedaholic as well. I can't stop buying seeds or collecting seeds. One shelf in my fridge is dedicated to the seeds and it is full of my most important seeds, I got 2 other boxes for me "not so important seeds" and another box for my new purchases.

I have far too much seeds, this year my new year resolution is not to buy any new seeds or plants, just grow from my seeds.

Guess what my husband bought me today.
A new seed box The one I have was a fair size - and full to overflowing with a couple of stuffed envelopes lying on top of it.
Now I have a little chest - and hopefully that should do me
                      What are we like

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I just tuck them away with the rest of my seeds OH hasnt a clue whats in the box anyway, I need something better to store them in, at the moment the ones for sowing in february are in the empty sweet tin, the rest are in a plastic box with a lid but the lid doesnt fit anymore. When I have sowed feb's I will put march in and so on. Suggestions please for something else.

The key is seal the packet well and put them in airtight container. Metal tin sounds good to me for long term storage. For the ones I need to have frequent access, I seal them in sandwich bags.

4th got some seeds from the Grapes
5th more seeds to follow from Morrisons when they appear(cheap)
                              6th as above from Lidl
7th have to prevent myself from going to garden centre(i'm telling myself I very badly need some compost)-probably will wander towards seed racks
