I always sow straight into the ground but have left it till late March early April, I have always used new seed, my soil is light/sandy, chicken pellets I apply lightly about a month / 6 weeks before. Usually about a 70 - 80 % success rate.

Cling film stops the paper dying out and the red napkin makes it ten times easier to see the tiny white roots."Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"
Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

You're on the ball Womble ! You do realise that the little dears won't come away now, just to spite you ? !There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

I have mine on damp kitchen towel in placcy bag in the window sill. It has been there for about a week and a half with no signs of germination. I was just about to give up, as Im rubbish at parsnips, so thanks for the advise I will wait a bit longer and see if I can get them going. I love parsnips but can never seem to get a decent crop, hoping this year will be sucessfull. Last year my parsnips (with the exception of one) looked like baby carrots:0

I'm giving the airing-cupboard-and-loo-roll method a try - this is my first year growing parsnips, so I'll be interested to see how it works out...Originally posted by lynda66 View Posttake a flask

Mine are on the windowsill near enough two weeks now. I put them on a cloth inside a paper bag when I went away for a few days, now they're all dried out. I think will just sow them as they are in a couple of days.My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)
