It also depends on how long they've been on the plant, ie the riper they are the hotter they are so early season ones aren't as hot although you sometimes get a rogue one which hits you harder than expected.

If it's a fresh chilli, I lick mine before I chop and if it's all clear the whole lot goes in. If not, then I judge the potential effects, and then kick myself for not wearing gloves. Then I try not to rub my eyes, which makes me think I've got itchy eyes, and usually put half in and save the other half for the next day.

it is a method that has always worked for me, almost as well as feeding one to a child and watching closely for reactions ( for this one to work you have to bet them a fiver they can't eat a whole one )
there is a man on youtube who eats them raw live.... he is quite the character, he has eaten raw most chilis we are discussing on this forum.. check his videos out
