I tried a few last season just to see what they were like.
I had a 2' square bed that had only 4" of compost in it, put in 8 plants. While they didn't get very big, with constant picking they did supply quite a lot of peas.
They are very crafty plants mind and the peas seem to hide, one day you think there are only tiny peas on there and the next you spot some that have gone a bit too large.
Up to about 1" they are fine and have a really nice flavour but let them grow too big and it's like trying to fish scales.
I'm going to try some more this year but in proper beds.I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

I'm growing some again this year. I found them easy to grow- and they have really pretty flowers.
I agree the main problem is making sure that you pick the pods small- about an inch as Stacey Steve says. It's the sort of veg you need to check at least every 2 days as the pods grow really quickly!
I used the tough ones in soup so as not to waste them!

I grew them last year but won't bother again. Didn't really enjoy them - the flavour's ok, but the "frilly" edges provide an odd texture in the mouth.
Easy to grow, mine romped away and covered an entire bed of about 4x6ft with 4-5 plants.
The flowers are quite pretty (of the pea variety), and I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that they make good hanging basket plants, so I might try that.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/
