Can anyone offer advice on cutting back russian vine/mile a minute. It is quite old and very bulky and climbing up a 10ft cotswold stone wall. It looks beautiful in summer but has become several feet thick and blocks the driveway. I have been asked to 'thin it out' but have told the owner that it may end up looking a bit rough for a year or so until it begins to fill out again. Do I just hack into it or could I end up making it look a mess? I would appriciate any suggestions.
