  • Spring Onions

Hi - I have a tray of Japanese Spring Onions growing on my window sill. I'm very pleased with their progress but I must ask the following question: They're developing black pin head sized "growths" on their tips. Is this normal, or something that I should remove from their delicate tips? Thank you for you views.

Good selection of seeds at Netto (Sunderland) 19p a packet this morn.

if there is just one on each plant, it will be the seed casing, it will drop off when it's ready

Lynda is right - the black growths are indeed what remains of the seed cases. Nothing to worry about and don't try and remove them - you may damage the growing tip - the plant will do it all by itself - clever things these veggies

I'm with Lynda and Rat - the black tips are the seed cases and just leave them alone.

Yes, leave them "just in case" ! (Sorry folks, couldn't resist. I'll get my coat.)
