  • stupid question?

    hi all i was just wondering if it is too late to grow any kind of carrot. My mate who shares the allotment with me says she fancies carrots but i hven,t got a clue!
    p.s if this is really really stupid question it wasn,t me that posted it, it was my hubby hee hee)

    Not a stupid question Raine. I've never sown in the open ground this late but you could try it. I would be more inclined to go for an early matureing one (something like Amsterdam Forcing) & so it under cover greenhouse border if you've got one , Cloche if you haven't. You may even get some big enough to have at Christmas. Failing that how about Paris Market it grows about 1" in diameter & is round rather than pointed you could sow those in window boxes.

        many thanks nick. As i'm feeling optimistic i think i'll give it a go-I could always say its a new trial-ooh i'm feeling very monty donnish now!

          Hi all, we've got some of those carrt seeds ourselves, and are also desperate to get something growing, so may well join in with the 'trial'! Lol!

          Think we'll try popping them into the cold frame we found burried under 8' of weeds last week! Just need to sort some glas out for the top!

          Will let you all know hoe we get on!

            try the local double glazing folks, they may have some ordinary windows they took out that you can use.
