Many years now - it's a benefit of age! But like lots of others I started with grandparents and parents. No yoda though, I still ask more questions than I answer!
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!
i'd like to say a big thanks again to all who filled in this poll
the results are interesting aren't they?
seems like quite a mix on the 'Vine', with a big chunk of people falling into either the 'couple of years' or 'loads of years' categories!

I've put a couple of years but this is really my first proper year as I was so huge last year (pregnant not fat) that although things grew well I couldn't get near the beds to tend to them properly!
I'm giving it my best shot this year and hope to go from strength to strength

All apart from the wise and the 2 foot tall!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Yoda I am certainly NOT, but I reckon - on and off - 40-something years and I still amaze myself on a daily basis how little I know and how much there still is to learn.
started with growing flowers from seeds a few years ago, then decided to grow easy things like toms, lettuces and cucumbers, with 3 growing boys to feed every little helped. Still consider my self newbie growing veg
My Dad had 3 allotments in London when I was growing up, so spent alot of time there with my own patch, I drifted away for a number of years as a teenager and then helped my mum as she took over the plots when he passed away in 87. I also used to grow a "bit of my own" under lights in cupboards and wardrobes at various addresses in London during my 20's.
I moved to Ireland in 2000 at the age of 35 and started growing a few tomatoes and courgettes in a small patch in my uncles garden and now I've expanded and have taken over two thirds of his growing area - to be fair he's in his eighties now and although he's still setting a few ridges of spuds and onions each year he's slowed down a lot from what he used to set. I'll tick around the 5 years as I've taken things more seriously over the last couple of years!
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!
For as long as I can remember, so close to 50 years, but I still learn something new just about every week. I also still get excited when the seed orders start to arrive.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
I must have got really started about 25 years ago because of mum - she was more into the ethnobiology thing than food (long long before it was popular). It has certainly influenced my career and lifestyle choices.
I'm not too very old (42yrs) and am always learning but I am short with a funny accent and post St Paddies day will very probably be a dodgy shade of green
