Just got back in from my course - a bit late to make a start today, but we'll start clearing it bit by bit tomorrow. I know I shouldn't do too much at once, but I've got some asparagus crowns arriving at the end of Oct, so I'll need a bed for them to go into.

I've already become an allotment bore - as an ice-breaker on the course I was on, we had to say a bit about ourselves. I was talking about how excited I was, which I thought was a bit sad really, but it started several conversations with people who wanted to know how to get one, and what crops I'd be growing etc. So, getting an allotment is also a conversation starter as well as good exercise, fresh veg etc

Oh, the envy...I am waiting impatiently for mine, as the nicely cut grass on it turns to weeds and the winter planting season passes me by 'cos the Council mannie who does the paperwork is off...
I liked the blog Happy, it will be interesting to see how you go... got any spare cardoon seeds ?
( Memo to self; that "winsome smile" trick doesn't work so great on the internet.)

Head-hunted member of the Nutter's Club - can I get my cranium back please ?

Snohare - thank you very much. I deadheaded the cardoons last weekend - there didn't seem to be viable seed They were very easy to grow from seed though (I got the seeds free from a gardening newspaper, whose name I better not say ).

Nick, the asparagus wee thing is a whole lot less distressing than when you've eaten a lot of beetroot, forgotten you've eaten it and then go to the loo...

over the weekend I spend quite a while weeding and running for shelter out of the rain. I uncovered some rubarb and a big patch of strawberrys also made a couple of friends in the lotty next door what a friendly lot you are.
