of all the things i've planted in the rolls only the french marigold have done anything in a week.
the rest are biding their time until the second week - the basil, toms, cape gooseberry, mint etc etc

Minta can take an AGE to germinate. Grew some from seed a couple of years ago and nothing happened for weeks. Was just about to toss the lot when I noticed the teeniest specks of green coming through the compost. Be patients with it, and it will thank you by romping through the entire garden.
I contained the roots of mine, or so I had thought anyways!

My Basil hasnt done anything yet either, wondering if putting it in a heated prop would help.......

Parsnip seeds germinated on paper but no shoots from loo rolls yet. Toms finally showed this morning!!

God grant me patience, but do it now!

Probably a really stupid question but when you pot them on do you plant the toilet roll tubes aswell?

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't own a microwave. My friends all look at me like I'm weird when I say we don't have one

Yes Pickle you do. It is supposed to save disturbing the roots, essential for those crops that have tap roots (like parsnips) etc. Make sure it is still damp when you do it though and try not to have any toilet roll above the ground as apparently it acts as a wick and will dry out the soil round the seedling. Hope that helps

definitely plant them out as is but make sure they're wet - stops the root systems being disturbed
