Thanks Alice - i have started again almost completley - the seedlings I had were very straggly and weak because I didnt really tend to them, not expecting them to actually grow.
Have done some research now and have lots of little paper pots of earth and seedlings on every sunny window sill in the house, all waiting to be hardened off some time around May.
Have also read all the packets this time around to make sure that they can be sown indoors in March
On the bright side, my salad, rocket, runner beans and peppers (so weird - why are these things still alive after all the abuse?!) and my second set of basil are flourishing.
Going to invest in a Wilkinsons £15 greenhouse next month, mainly for the shelf space, but also to free up some window sills.
