I grew carrots in pots last year, didn't thin them though and I also planted them quite late on, looked like the thinnings he had in the photos. Pretty sure it would work though if you thin them out!

thanks for the link... its reassuring to know my carrot seedlings look like they should. I wish I'd had the idea of sowing in a circle though, I'll know for next time.
