I read somewhere that you can put shredding (two massive bags of the stuff) in a trench for your seed pots and it will help with water retention do you think It would do any harm .
This won't hurt at all, after all paper is made from wood. Probably best to wet it down before putting your potatoes on top then cover with the soil you have excavated from the trench. You can also use grass clippings compost and manure in the same way.
