  • Weed Suppressant membrane on veggie Patch???

    Hi All,

I would like to put a weed suppressant membrane down on my veggie patch this year to keep the weeds at bay; is there one you would suggest and do you think its a goo idea if I watered in some nematodes before I put the membrane down?

Depends if you want it to be a temporary or permanent fixture. If you want to re-use it, I'd go for one of the woven ones - if not then 150g perforated polythene would do the job.

I agree with rat.........go for the woven ones! Apart from lasting longer they allow water through the perforations!

How much digging did you do under the cardboard before planting? Am planning on this also but am running out of time. Assume that you don't need to earth up too?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Cardboard, what a good idea; I have the same questions as Alison?

Last year it had 3 sisters, and was rife with couchgrass so it was dug over and loads of roots removed. Cardboard was from a sofabed...and was the right width for the bed so we thought...might as well.

Hole in card and soil made with bulb planter. Spud in. soil put back on top. We will earth up anyway, just over the card as they grow.
