  • tomato hanging basket position

    Hi all

I was thinking of growing either some tumbling toms or 100's and 1000's in a hanging basket but the only place I've got for a hanging basket only has sun in the morning until just after midday. Is this enough sun for toms or should I give up on the hanging basket? Sorry if it's a daft question but I've never grown ANYTHING before

I did tomatoes in a hanging basket last year (Garten Pearle), they were fully south facing, but got a bit straggly and pathetic as I couldn't keep up with the watering even though I'd put moisture retentive crystals in with the compost. Having said that, I still got a fair crop from them, but I suspect it could have been a lot better.

I would think yours will do better than mine because they shouldn't dry out so much in between waterings.

I say give it a go, you could always put the hanging basket on top of a big upturned pot and place it in the sun if it does look like its struggling. That way they'll still be able to tumble.

    Best of luck
