  • Help with growing in pots/containers needed

    Hi,

It is my first year of trying to grow some veg, i have a number of different veg that i have started off in small pots in the house and greenhouse but i would like some advice on the following:

I have set some peas in small seed cell trays and they are about 10cm high now. Can i grow these on in containers ?? If so what size containers do i grow them in ??? and how plants per container ??

I have also got some sweetcorn growing in cell pots. Can i grow sweetcorn in containers ??? If so what size container ?? How many plants per container ??? When do i plant out ???

Sorry there is so many questions.

Growing them in a container isn't a lot different than growing in the ground - the space that the plants need is more or less the same. So for your peas, the size of the container determines how many you can fit in it according to the spacing it says on the seed packet. You don't need to worry about the "space between rows" measurement, but you have to stick to the "space between plants" measurement.
Sweetcorn, you will probably only get one plant per pot unless they are huge pots, and they might have problems with blowing over?

I've found a couple of threads for you that are about container growing on Vegging Out

I think this is excellent advice. Basically, divide up the plants that you might have grown in a raised bed and use the biggest pots/troughs/wheelbarrows/dustbins suitable container that you can find. I have an old square sink that I am growing herbs in.

I am looking forward to scouring a few bootfairs for anything different that might be used in the garden.
