  • Well I've discovered my dad's 'garage' is a veritable treasure trove!

Having long taken the pee outta my dad for straightening nails etc and generally keeping everything just in case, I went into his big workshop/garage building and was like a kid in a sweet shop.
I came away with metres of waterproof membrane to stick on the lottie weeds, chicken wire and wooden stakes for my leaf-mold bin we're doing the weekend. 4 double glazed windows from their previous extension alongwith 6 poly carb roof sheets....AND a promise of help build it when OH buys the wood
    Hurrah for dads!!
I'm gettin to thinkin' Can we build this for next to nowt?

You took the words right out of my mouth Nick. When they're teenages they don't want to know us. When they mature a little and get some sense they are back looking for anything they can get AND the help to build it. Kids, who would have them.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

God Adam he's not that 'old', you'll be calling me the 'granny' of the vine next!
On the subject of 'dads' garages, after my father-in-law died my mum-in-law was clearing out the garage & throwing everything away. I rushed round to rescue lots of interesting bits & pieces as I'm something of a hoarder too.I now have a store cupboard full of odd nuts & bolts, hosepipe connectors, wood planes etc. that I'm sure will come in handy one day!

Hubby and I call all of that sort of stuff that you'll never need but keep 'just in case' Trebus, after the old chap on 'Life of Grime'
                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_Trebus

Often used in sentences such as "...the garage is filled with Trebus again." or also we turn it into a verb: "I think the garage needs de-trebussing"

Well he used to be a joiner so I think he's quite looking forward to getting out his useful tools (the ones we were not allowed to touch when kids).
Incidentally, he's no good at gardening. That's why we're on here looking for help!

On a similar vein, I received a text message from No.1 daughter who went to college a couple of weeks ago it said something along the lines of....

" as you'll be out this way on friday (I'm not really but I am now!) Could you drop my DVD's. CD's and Shoes off & gan we have a bag full of veg off the lottie to have with our Gammon"

                        GAMMON!! I've got Pizza & chips & I work , she's a poor student on Gammon!!!
And when she was at home she never bothered about the veg
