What can I grow need advice :D

Hey I am from Northern Ireland Co. Antrim and I have put in some onion sets and a few potatoes in old buckets. I was wondering if there was any other easy crops to grow. I would be interested in outdoor tomatoes but are they bothersome? Please give me some advice on any other easy crops you can think of. I don't have a greenhouse but I have a shed with windows that I start of lettuces in.

Well, they've never bothered me!

Seriously, though, I would say that toms are only slightly above average in troublesomeness. Indeterminate (cordon) tomatoes will need some kind of support, whether they are indoor or out - however even determinate (bush) tomatoes can sprawl if they get big enough. Also, in recent years, there's been a big problem with blight - but who knows, this summer could be dry and blight-free (well, we can but hope!).

Other easy crops:

* Lettuce and salad leaf mixes
* Courgettes and squash
* Runner and French beans (provided you don't plant them out before the last frosts)

I find radishes, beetroot and turnips trouble free.

I live in Newtownabbey and last year was my first year. I grew tumbling toms which are hanging basket tomatos and wernt very bothersome, also leeks, spring onions, and peas didnt need much attention

I have some tumbling tom plants on my window sill and they are not too much bother..

How about growing toms and strawberries in hanging baskets? The only hard bit is keeping them watered.
My carrots are doing well in a pot too, anything over 30 inches high is supposed to be too high for the low flying carrot fly, but mine aren't that high.

Chard. Or perpetual spinach which is nearly the same thing.
Both foolproof based on last year's experience - the stuff grew like mad and continued through summer, autumn and winter!

When I said my tumbling toms were no bother I spoke too soon , as the are taking over the kitchen and I cant see out the window roll on June.....

You might find you have no trouble growing things other people have lots of trouble with...
If you read up about what suits what veg, you're less likely to have trouble anyway.
Decide what you like eating, read up about what takes the most time to look after and away you go.
The first few years I grew stuff, it was all in pots and I bought plug plants, all were easy, because most of the hard work of germinating and pottng on had already been done.

A question for you I have a corrugated plastic lean-too at the back of my house with sides on but open to the elements at the front, would it be poss to put my tomato plants in there for the night or am I pushing my luck?

I would have that its ok in there Abby - as far as i know Tommies will withstand overnight lows down to about 5 degrees - i`m sure last year my Shirley tomatoes were in pots outside in the garden at about this time of year.
