Peas and beans

My peas Kelvedon wonder has sprouted. The root is already out of the bottom. I'm using the black bottomless pots that they sell in garden centres.

Should I be getting ready to plant them out. The tops haven't even opened up yet. If I need to harden them off how do I do this properly?

Also I need a slap coz my broad beans weren't showing anything so I had a root around and managed to snap the lovely long root it had made. Will not be doing that again. Luckily I planted 2 in every pot!!!!!

Harden them off - -7 - 10 days of out in the day, back inside at night - then they can go outside.

They are both fairly hardy so I'd not worry that the plants were small. Good luck with them!

I very nearly did the same thing to my broad beans looking for signs of life.
My raised bed sown Suttons have taken 24 days to appear. but just poked through today. I was ready to dive in there and rummage!

The ones I sowed indoors took just about 3 weeks.
I put them out when they were this far on, and they've been doing fine.

My broad beans are Sutton as well. I'm leaving them well alone for now. no more rummaging. My peas are still little tidly things lots of root but not much up top if you know what I mean

With the broadies I was amazed (well compared to most seedlings) by how much had been going on in there while I impatiently stared at the surface of the compost!

How long did your Kelvedons take to germinate? I just sowed some outdoors at the weekend. I can't wait!

They took about 2 weeks but they are indoors. The roots are already about 5 inches long

ive already planted out my peas but we are in the very south, hoping for no more frost. have got plastic bottles over to try and protect. we are also new to this planting lark so its trial and error but found this site today and seems helpful:

Woo hoo! The Kelvedons I planted on Good Friday (10th April) have sprouted today. Can see 6 out of 12 so far.

It was a nice surprise when I got home from work
