Totally Obsessed

I am totally obsessed now as well Susiewoosie.

Six weeks ago I had no interest at all in gardening, then I got 2 hens and the man I bought the chicken house from asked would I like the wood he had used to keep the bark contained, it wouldn't fit in my back garden so I thought it would make a great raised bed for veggies and thats how my obsession began. I have a pile of gardening books to read from the library, and I am thrilled when my veggie and flower seeds germinate, I must check them at least 6 times a day, lol, they are sunning themselves on the dining room table and windowsill. I have so much to learn and this forum is great.

Hubby gets dragged to the garden centre every weekend now, and I am trying to persuade him to dig up part of the lawn in the front garden to put more veggies in.

PS A lot of what I have managed to do succesfully has been down to reading and acting on the advice so freely given here on the vine.
There are a lot of extremely knowledgeable people on this forum. I still make plenty of mistakes but avoid many more by viewing old threads.

This sort of remark keeps my enthusiasm up.

Hey TS maybe you can help with my question of when I should cover my carrots (which now number 13) They are about 0.5 inches tall.

I'm another one to add to the seedling addiction group! I only got into gardening late summer last year, so this is my first year growing from seed, and it's so addicting! The windowledge is bursting, and I still have so many seeds to sow! Every morning I look forward to getting up and looking them all over to see what's popped through, and I check them again during the day and again before bed at night. My OH thinks I'm crackers!

my poor peas got planted out today. I say poor peas coz they were looking lovely and healthy. I started hardening them off yesterday put them out today and disaster happened. They were on top of the wheelie bin which I though was safe enough but there was a big bang and when I looked outside.................
Mt poor peas were on the ground with the bin on top of them. They looked all shook up and not in a good way, so I thought try and get them in the ground and see what happens.

Never mind Susie, peas are quite tough little beasts, give 'em a cuddle and a little drink. I'm sure you'll have some of them survive.

LOL you got fried vegies for braines; just like the rest of us! lol good eer aint it! lol We eat, sleep, live and dream vegie gardening! lol

Also planted out some iceberg lettuce plants that turned up from Ebay and aparagus crowns that turned up as well. The asparagus are in a big plastic tub and hopefully will be okay.

Hi Susie I hope you peas make it!

I went to B&Q last night, needed to get some growbags to put in my greenhouse. I came home with 4 for a £5er. not bad! I might get some more at the weekend as I know I will need them! They are only the peat free things so prob not that much substance to them but hey I am on a tight budget! I have some checken pellets will add a hand full or so to each bag when I plant my Toms, Peppers & Chilli's! At least the poor little darlings will have more room to stretch there feet and branches! I sowed them in the middle of January and most of them are getting quite tall and bushy now

At the moment they are all huddled together on the shelving along one side of the g/h. I will be out there tonight planting some of them on thats for sure! See me grinning from ear to ear below! lol

Hi Irie thats a good price for gro bags and as you said you can always beef them up with chicken pellets

I'm getting really impatient to get my greenhouse done. I've hired someone to lay me a concrete base and then someone is building the greenhouse. Its 10x8 so pretty big but then I intend to fill it to the rafters. I have 9 levington grow bags but I will be opening them up and using them to fill big pots. These are all things that my dad used to do

I've got 6 tomato plants coming from Ebay and 3 of my tomato Luciano have germinated. I also want to grow cucumbers, aubergine and peppers (all still waiting to germinate)

The butternut squash will (hopefully) be in a growbag outside.

I'm starting to run out of concrete shelf along the back of the garden as well, but hey who needs a patio anyway?

Haven't got to that stage yet but after letting the dog out I immediately go and check the veg. I keep telling myself that I will leave it for a day but I can't help myself.

I was away for easter weekend, first thing i did when i got back was go check on the garden........ everything it seems had doubled in size!!!

I guess when u check thing 5 or 6 times a day you just don't notice.

Are they Luciano paverotie's Tomatoes or Luciano the Reggae singer's lol Shh I have Reggae Luciano as a friend on My Space! I won't tell him if you don't
They sound interesting! What type of Tom are they?? I have had a quick google but can't find them at the moment!

I am green about your greenhouse mine is only 6x8 (too small) and was only built straight on top of the grass years ago. The base has sunk a bit I think over the years but then I have had it for over 20 years now so can't complane!
