  • Beans & Mange Tout

I could have called this thread 'Now That Was Stupid' but thought it might cause confusion!

11 days ago I sowed some Oregon Sugar Pod (Mange Tout) seeds in normal modules.

I don't know why I did this! I had already read about using loo rolls and had started saving them but my brain must have by-passed that info and went straight for the modules!

My question is should I pop them out of their modules and put them into loo rolls? (The roots are showing at the bottom of the modules but only just) Or should I just plant some more in loo rolls and start again?

I also sowed some dwarf beans on the same day (again, in modules) but these haven't germinated yet. Should I plant some of those in loo rolls too?

I've often planted out peas from modules - peas are hardy and as long as I can see it's there and there's enough root to keep the compost together when I move it from the pot I just go for it. Sometimes there just aren't enough root-trainers or loo-roll middles in the world! Just plant them out.

As to the beans - well it depends where they are. It's a bit cold at the moment unless they're indoors. Give them a week or so more before you despair!

        Thanks Flummery and selfraising!

The beans are inside, same as the peas, but the peas were under cover for a few days and the beans weren't. There's space in the propagator now so I've popped the beans in and will wait and see!

I might sow a couple of extra beans in loo rolls just in case! I can always pass them on to someone else if they all decide to germinate!

Or you could grow them all, and let some become kidney beans, for winter use (frozen or dried)

            AMAZING!

I had no idea that's what kidney beans where!

I might have to do that and then not use the tinned ones when I make up a vat of chilli!
