Hi am new to growing my own veg and am wondering if you can grow carrots in tubs or does it have to be in the garden?

Mine are in tubs and doing fine Tubs make it easier to add a little sand as well

Tubs are great. Just make sure they are deeper than the eventual length of your carrot

As previous posts, I grow carrots with the kids in school in tubs, work well. Growing some parmex carrots (ball shape) this year with them

I grew miniature carrots in a bucket last year and they turned out fine. 'Little Finger' was one variety, can't remember what the other one was called though...I'm trying Paris Market 5 and Parmex this year - both round varieties.

I have carrots in a tub do they need to be thinned out or will they be ok?

They will be fine if you don't thin them, but you will get lots of smaller carrots rather than fewer decent sized ones. Depends what you want!

This guide was posted on the forum not long ago and I think it seems very helpful.

I sowed some Early Nantes 5 carrots in a container on 31st March and today they are like this...



It will soon be time to thin them out I think, but I'm waiting until they are 1" tall.
The boxing-ring arrangement is to keep the cats out - and it worked

I grew mine in old swing bins last year. I didn't exactly "thin" them, but I kept taking the babies to cook so the ones left got bigger each time. They were the best carrots I've ever tasted and the children loved picking their own and eating them raw. I'm risking them in the ground this time, but they are in a raised bed covered with a canopy of fleece.
