  • Starting seeds off inside

I live in a flat with a bright sunny kitchen window which is full already of various plants/seeds. I Also have a shelf unit in a sunny bedroom that I could use to put trays of seeds on but in my kitchen I have a gap of about 18 inches on top of my kitchen cupboards, do you think the seedlings would be ok up there as long as I kept them watered?

A lot of the seeds I have bought or planning to buy needs starting off indoors, just trying to work out where I'm going to put them all.

You can Bex but the problem comes with light. they will get drawn towards the window so Ideally you need some suplimentary lighting above them, this may seem a bit OTT to you though so you could try this trick from Geoff Hamilton.

Get a sturdy cardboard box, cut it on the angle & line the inside with kitchen foil or better still is the mypar film( I think it's called that) then you stand your trays in that & the light is reflected around.

If you can get some of the posh film you could make one out of wood & pack it away in the summer. ( maybe even put a light above it)

Would this work inside a greenhouse Nick, or is it OTT? DDL

If you have a lean-to greenhouse painting the back wall white or silver should give the same effect?

I have been using the window in my garage for growing indoors.

This year I had so many seed trays on the go I had to create a second shelf part way up the window. This allowed a double decker affect and allowed me to get space for the pots and trays.

Would think this is a bit less practical inside the house though.
