  • I wish my neighbours would cut their grass...

... I don't know how many dandelions I have dug out already in a day, but it's one black rubbish bag full of already. My compost heap is happy though...

Someone on here mentioned putting salt on dandelions to kill them off - do a search!
Are you supposed to compost dandelions??

I thinkI would have to have a pleasant word asking them to keep their bit tidy. It's only fair.

We have a similar prob with private wasteground next to our house that we strim as it's so unsightly and unmanageable with weeds and have just applied to land registry to find out who it belongs to so I can ask them to keep it tidy. I am currently scrounging cardboard boxes to cover it so we don;t have to keep maintaining it.

So I know how irritating it is!

        It's annoying Tiachica But
you have the right to enjoy your property as you wish
and your neighbour has the right to enjoy his
and if he likes his covered in dandelios then so be it.
We're not all the same and just as well. If everybody in the world was the same as me they would be driving me NUTS.

Ah, I know the feeling myself. I've never risked putting dandelions on my own compost heap though, just in case they didn't compost fully.
          Today's mistake is tomorrow's compost...

Speaking as someone who has just taken on a plot i am battling trying to get the weeds under control. I pull piles of stuff out and then dandelions, dock and couch grass appear in different places by the next time i go to the plot!! It isn't for want of trying.
The family next to my plot have taken on a plot that is very over grown and i am getting things coming over from their plot too, however they are working really hard and i know that they will eventually tame their plot. It is frustrating for you i know but that's gardening for you, the weeds always grow faster than the plants you are cultivating!! Dandelions are one of the prettiest weeds too!!
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

Maybe their mower is broke? Mine was last year and I didn't cut the grass all summer

Perhaps you should offer to do it yourself. Something along the lines of 'shall I do yours as I have the mower out anyway'

My neighbours are really good at keeping their gardens tidy, It's the Blummin local authority that isn't pulling its weight at the mo, there's areas of grass round here that have 2ft dandilions.

Pick the flowers for dandelion wine! It's a pity dandelions are thought of as weeds, they really have an attractive flower and you can eat the leaves.

I think it looks quite nice in a natural kind of way. It'll certainly be better for wildlife.

Make a wildflower seed bomb and lob it over.

I think this is the best approach.
I've spent 2 hours on my hands & knees today grubbing dandelions and daisies out of my lawn.
Sure, a few of them are quite pretty, but they out-compete the grass and take over.
