What do you mean collapse - falling over or collapsing inwards? Have you looked at the roots for any signs of white rot?

I feed and water my garlic in the last month of its life - June .
I've never had it falling over at this time of year.
Do have a look for signs of disease - never had that either.

Mine are in planters so I've been feeding high nitro the last couple of weeks as they've shown signs of distress, they haven't - umm - fallen over though

I hate, loathe, detest and despise garlic, but grow it because my kids requested it. The &*%$ stuff grows rampant on my plot just to spite me. Perhaps you are just guilty of liking it too much. Try ignoring it completely and occasionally swearing at it when you accidentally get a whiff..... works for me. Oh, and you have to plant it using throw away rubber-gloves at arms length..... uttering profanities at this point helps too.
