sweet potatoes, are they growable?

has anyone managed to grow any of these and where would i get seeds? i can't find any at all in garden centres

Sweet potato's are usually supplied as cuttings.

I did try them the last year, however not very sucessful as they need very hot weather. I got such tiny thin sweet pototes.
